Listen, I'm winging it. I'm still figuring it all out, but that's what college is for, right? And I suppose marathons are pretty good for that too -- 26.2 miles of racing how many months and miles of training?
I'm Chris, and I'm a college student and marathon runner. Though I'm originally from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, I attend Boston College. I'm studying English and Medical Humanities, and I guess you could stay I'm studying the art of the marathon too. Hitting the books and hitting the pavement, you could say.
Come April 21, I'll be running the 2014 Boston Marathon for the Wellesley Education Foundation. My goal is to raise $4,000 for WEF, and any amount you could donate helps, keeps me running.
For about eight years now I've been running. I ran both cross country and track in grade school and high school, during which time I fell in love with running. Having a team, having someone for whom to run was what made all the pain, all the training worth it. To say I'm stoked to be running for WEF is an understatement.
Distance running has always felt right to me, and my first marathon only confirmed that. Boston is my chance to run for others and to better myself. For Boston I'll battle New England winters and the chaos of college, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
I'd like to thank the Wellesley Board of Selectmen and the Wellesley Education Foundation for giving me this incredible opportunity. The next months of training and fundraising will all be worth it.
